I Finally Understand The CSS Box Model
I love Josh Comeau's content. He's built up a strong mastery in front-end development. It clearly shows when reading his blog posts. Take, for example, his latest post on making beautiful gradients. When I found out that he had a course on learning CSS, I knew I had to buy it. I haven't finished the course yet, but so far I recommend it.
This week I learned about the CSS box model. He explained it so well that it finally clicked. I'm kind of embarrassed to admit I didn't bother learning this years ago. But I'm happy I understand it now.
Getting My Foot Into The Freelance Door
Late 2021, I wanted to explore doing freelance work in addition to my day job. But I had no idea where or how to get started. I wasn't even sure if I had enough experience to get started. Thankfully, I met Tomasz and Kevin, both knowledgable freelancers. I reached out to them, and they shared advice on freelancing. Here's a summary:
Use UpWork as a potential starting point
Build a portfolio to showcase to potential clients
Reach out to local businesses to find first clients
Leverage a CMS like WordPress to create websites
I recommend checking out their atomic essays on Twitter or Typeshare. They have lots of valuable information on freelancing.
Who is Miss Excel?
The Verge did an interview with a TikTok influencer who goes by the name Miss Excel. Kat Norton is the master mind behind Miss Excel. She has a huge following on TikTok and Instagram, and she leveraged that to build a business. She sells Excel training courses and occasionally does corporate training on spreadsheet software. Her business is now generating up to six figures of revenue a day. Very impressive.
I decided to watch her content, and I found her dancing to be distracting. But she does give amazing Excel tips and tricks.
