I've been working in climate tech for 18 months now.
In some ways, it feels like I'm just getting started. But every month, I get marketers asking me how I "broke in" to the space and built momentum.
Here are the 3 simple (but effective) pieces of advice I'd give anyone starting out.
Advice #1: It's who you know
Winning the marketing game in climate is all about connections.
You'll need them for:
Getting a climate job (or gig)
Conducting subject matter expert interviews
Setting up interviews and events for your employer
So sign up for the next climate networking event in your area, and start chatting.
Advice #2: You're building with LEGO blocks
Once you land work and start working on climate projects, it's easy to get a bit overwhelmed.
To deal with info overwhelm, I like to look at each climate tech content asset I create as a LEGO block that I can use to build more cool stuff in the future.
That article on decarbonization in logistics ...
Will lead to that white paper on data centres ...
Which will lead to that email sequence about CDR.
If you're feeling inadequate now, just think of what this project will enable you to do a year from now.
Advice #3: Focus on trust
B2B climate tech marketing is all about mastering trust.
Ask yourself how you can earn the trust of:
Company leadership
Skeptical buyers
Investors
Keep these three groups happy, and you'll be set.

Honestly, I wish someone had given me a roadmap on how to "break into" climate tech. I can't go back in time, but at least I can offer these tips to anyone getting started today.
