Plot Structure: Truby argues for a unique approach to plot construction, which he calls the "22 building blocks." Rather than adhering strictly to traditional three-act structures, he emphasizes the interplay of various story elements, such as desire, conflict, and revelation.
Theme and Symbolism: According to Truby, effective storytelling goes beyond surface-level plot events to explore deeper themes and universal truths. He encourages writers to infuse their stories with symbolism and thematic resonance, which enables a deeper connection with audiences.
Of these three insights, I find the third to be the most powerful.
