I didn't have to write an essay today, but am still writing.
So that is what building a habit over 30 days does. Being born a procrastinator, I simply kept postponing developing my writing habit for over 4 years. Then Ship30 happened, and I wrote 29 atomic essays and 1 thread in 30 days.
How was that possible, when I have rarely been able to do something so regularly unless it was work/employment related?
In the last two days, I have talked about some of the benefits of the Ship30 course, I am not going to reiterate them here.
Instead, I am just going to highlight one often overlooked fact. If you don't make a significant substantial commitment towards a learning goal, you are unlikely to make any progress. And this is especially the case when the commitment is monetary.
While the sunk cost fallacy is often highlighted as detrimental to decision-making, in this it actually comes to our aid in habit formation.
While that isn't the only benefit of joining a course, it definitely is a big one that I would espouse as it made sure that I didn't just write 30 times in 30 days but also on the 31st day.
