Using AI to break a self-bullying habit: A 5-step process for recovering from toxic self-growth

Do you have a toxic self-growth habit?

Earlier this year, I was beating myself up for all the things I “should” be doing, but wasn't

  • Writing and publishing daily

  • Flossing

  • Reading

Blah, blah, blah.

What was happening here?

Was I avoiding, procrastinating, and playing with bright and shiny new things?

Yes, to all of the above — but I wasn't giving myself credit for living my current values.

As it turns out, I spent time being available to the people I am committed to doing life with, and I was learning how to devote attention to self-care.

Amidst this self-bullying, I was noodling around on Chat GPT and asked it to help me define a set of values I could implement daily.

A 5-step process

  • Identify a Role Model

  • Uncover Shared Values Consider the values that your chosen role model lives by.

  • Observe Interactions

  • Extract Attributes with Chat GPT

  • Transform Values into Actions

This AI-generated values filter gives me permission to skip some "shoulds."

Which “should” habits do you need to ditch for the time being?
