I write about languages and life in Spain through the eyes of a native English teacher

Learning a language is more than just a New Years resolution.

It’s a key that opens doors to unexpected places, new people and unique experiences.

Truly life-changing.

But it doesn’t come for free ⬇️

It’s one of the most rewarding yet challenging things to do.

Daily vocabulary reviews, frustrating listening progress and seemingly endless plateaus.

On top of that, it often makes you go against your primal instincts…

Leaving your comfort zone

During my first year in Spain I struggled A LOT.

I fell into an AWFUL habit - avoiding uncomfortable situations.

Social anxiety and perfectionism took over me. I was ruining my experience and I knew it.

Until I found a way to fight it…

I learnt that us humans are hard-wired to follow the easiest path.

This way isn’t always beneficial. It limits our growth and personal development.

Here are 5 reasons why you should say yes more often to uncomfortable situations…

  • Makes you more adaptable, preparing you for life’s inevitable changes

  • Improves your self-confidence

  • Makes other uncomfortable situations easier

  • Creates personal/professional opportunities that can change your life.

  • You leave a monotonous routine behind

Remember - Momentum is huge.

Starting is the hardest part.

But the more you say yes, the easier it gets.

Then you’re unstoppable.
