Collaboration is an exchange of ideas.
That seems a simple notion. Except that many aren't open to new ideas. Which means a lot of 'collaboration' is… not.
Not Invented Here (NIH) Syndrome is everywhere.
If we didn't think of it, the idea has less merit. Or should be ignored completely. We've all had great ideas discarded for no other reason than the person making the decision didn't come up with it.
Until they create the same idea by themselves later.
NIH can appear in the most unlikely places. We're all human, and humans make up their mind before talking to another.
We might not even realise we've made a decision. But often what we seek is not the best answer to a challenge, but confirmation of our opinion.
So want collaboration?
Then exchange ideas.
