Everyone says: Be on every platform.I chose two instead
Yesterday someone shared a psychology webinar in a WhatsApp group. The registration link was only on Instagram.
I don't use Instagram, so it took me ten minutes to find it.
Most people won't spend ten minutes. They'll just move on.
I see this a lot. Coaches, therapists and workshop hosts, but also SaaS companies and much bigger brands.
Everything goes on one platform, often Instagram, and the numbers look great. Hundreds of likes, sometimes thousands.
But likes don't tell you how many of those people pay for your services.
And many of them ignore LinkedIn or email completely, even though that's where a lot of their best leads are.
So yes, they should be in more than one place, and at least one of those places should be their own:
โ†’ A newsletter, so interested people don't depend on an algorithm
โ†’ A link anyone can open without an account
โ†’ Maybe LinkedIn or YouTube
But being reachable in more than one place isn't the same as being everywhere.
Tools like Buffer and Typeshare make it easy to publish one post to several platforms. Same with Postiv AI, which I use for LinkedIn. It can post to X too. I still don't.
Publishing takes seconds. Showing up doesn't. Each platform needs you to check it, reply to comments, engage with others and build a strategy that fits it.
Two days ago I wrote that if you don't choose what you give up, something gets given up anyway. Platforms work the same way.
So I've made a clear choice for my own work:
โ†’ LinkedIn for conversations
โ†’ My newsletter, because that's the list I own and no algorithm decides who sees it
โ†’ YouTube next, when I'm ready to do it properly
Dickie Bush and Alex Hormozi give the same advice: go deep on one platform before you spread yourself too thin.
How many platforms are you on? And more importantly, are your paying clients in the same place as your likes?
P.S. This came up on our Ship 30 for 30 live call yesterday too.
