Remember between all of your hustling, go getting, systematizing, planning, and executing to rest.

Studies have proven that rest can be the key element to finally completing a task or accomplishing a goal.

Reset Your Brain 🧠

Have you ever found yourself working tirelessly at something, walked away for a minute (usually out of frustration) and then the answer came to you?

When you take time to rest, your brain can essentially reset itself and come up with a solution. The brain is a muscle. Just like working out, you don't want to keep pushing after you've reached the failure state.

Reset Your Body πŸ‘€

Have you ever had a day where no matter what your brain says, your body does not cooperate? This is what I call a body crash.

If you don't take the time to rest, your body will choose it for you in form of shutting down.

Make sure you are eating, sleeping, staying hydrated, etc. Your mind and your body will reward you by cooperating in your hustling endeavors.

Schedule It In

The easiest way to make sure you're getting rest is to schedule it into your schedule and stick to it.

Sometimes, all you really need is a bit of rest.

Your e-mail signature is often your first personal digital impression, beyond the initial email.

An outdated or sloppy email signature could make or break a connection. Your email signature should be updated, informative, and provide clear instructions on how you can be reached.

Make Sure Your Email Signature is Updated

An outdated email signature is a great way to lose a potential client or contact.

If your company has a standard logo, make sure you're using the most recent version. If you have a photo, make sure it's recent.

Keep Your Recipient Informed

Some companies ask employees to provide a slogan, mission statement, or logo in their email signature as a free advertisement

If this is the case, please make sure you're using the correct message. It's ok to have these things, just make sure they are current.

Provide Clear Communication Instructions

Let your contact know the best way to get in touch or respond.

Clearly state your email address, phone number with extension, website, office hours, etc. We like to give folks the benefit of the doubt but reminding them one more time won't hurt.

The Little Things Make a BIG Difference

These things may seem small and insignificant, but can help you stand out in the sea of someone's inbox. Don't craft an amazing email and drop the ball at the signature.

If you've ever said or thought "Digital marketing is so easy. You get to play on social media all day" you could not be more wrong.

Digital marketing is so much more than "playing on social media". There are methods, techniques, and skills that come into play. Personal social media can be carefree and fun, but when it's your job, it becomes another beast entirely.

As someone who has been working in this field for half a decade, I'm tired of the disrespect.

Digital Marketing is Easy

Digital marketing is so much more than social media. It encompasses social media, email marketing, graphic design, video production, photography, copywriting, web design, and so much more.

Crafting a cohesive consistent message across the internet in the voice of a brand is time consuming and difficult, especially if the brand is not your own.

It takes years of hard work and practice to be proficient in all the afformentioned skills on top of learning to adapt the voice of a brand to those skills.

Respect Your Digital Marketing Friends and Teams

The digital marketing landscape is a forever changing environment and what worked yesterday won't always work today.

In most career paths, new techniques are not announced every few days. There can be courses around best practices that apply 5, 10, 20 years down the road.

Social media algorithms and best practices change weekly. So before you downplay the profession remember:

Digital Marketers Must Think On Their Feet.

Digital Marketing Skills Are Transferrable.

Digital Marketing Influences Modern Business Decisions

While on the surface, the job looks easy, there is more beneath the iceberg. Digital marketers deserve respect.

We all want to reach our goals faster. It's why we look for the "shortcut". That's why we take that class or sign up for that mastermind.

What if I could show you how to reach your goals faster by using the skills you already have?

Carve Your Own Path

Ever since I was young, I dreamed of working in a creative field, BUT I didn't want to go to art school or study art in college.

I had a goal to accomplish and I didn't want to take the traditional route. I decided the best way to maximize my collegiate experience would be to study business...eventually marketing, and make the jump later in my career. This stragegy payed off.

The first 3 years of my career were more focused on social media and marketing strategy until I was able to take advantage of an opportunity to show off my creative skills.

Lean and Then Pivot

Leaning into skills that already posses will help you make the neccessary pivot when the opportunity presents itself.

Before I was working in social media and marketing strategy, I was interested in graphic design, video, and photography. I just didn't know how to gain the skills. At my first job, I befriended one of the graphic designers, and we traded skillsets after work. I would show him social media management and strategy, and he would teach me graphic design basics.

By leanining into my knowledge of social media and marketing stragtegy I was able to leverage my skills and trade knowlege which lead to my pivot into becoming a graphic designer.

Use Your Leverage

There is a faster way to reach your goals. You don't have to claw your way from the bottom.

You have skills and knowlege that is valuable. Lean into those skills and learn to leverage them to take the fast track to your goals.

Failing in Public is Essential for Growth.
Larrative

When most people start a new thing, they often worry about failing publicly, but this is an essential part of growing.

Human nature is against negative feelings. So when you want to start a new hobby, business, or project, there's a voice in your head that says, "but what if I fail?" This stops most people from trying at all.

What do you want to start:

  • A photography business

  • A blog or newsletter

  • A YouTube channel

Acting in public provides the skills neccessary for growth.

Every single successful person has failed publicly. And the lessons they learned from that failure fuled them to success.

We all know the stories: Oprah, Steve Jobs, even Gary Vaynerchuk. Not only did each one of them fail, they failed big. Oprah was fired as a reporter. Steve Jobs was fired from Apple. Gary Vee left a budding YouTube channel for its competitor Viddler.

Understanding how to learn from failure will ascend your efforts to success.

Think Lessons, not losses

Whenever something doesn't go they way you envision and you "fail", try to turn that loss into a lesson.

When you make this mindset shift, you'll start connecting the dots of why things aren't working.

The Internet is primed to only show success. Showing failure is the best way to grow.

If you can leverage building AND failing in public growth is inevitable.

As humans, we are drawn to authentic stories. Those stories mean more when we watch someone pick themselves back up because it paints the picture that we can do it too.
