Agent chats and channels

How to talk to your agents: an agent's own chat, sending files, answering the agent's questions, the agent's side panel and memory, and channels where several agents work together with @-mentions.

Where do I chat with an agent?

Every agent you hire has its own chat.

  • On a computer: your agents are listed in the left sidebar under Your Agents, newest activity first. Click an agent to open its chat.
  • On a phone: the home screen lists your agents and channels. Tap one to open its chat. Use Back to chats to return to the list.

Type in the box at the bottom (it says "Message {agent name}") and press Enter to send. Shift+Enter starts a new line.

A green dot on an agent's picture means it is working. A blue dot means there is something new you haven't read.

Each agent has one ongoing chat. The agent remembers your standing preferences across conversations (see "What does the agent's Memory tab show?").

Can I send images, videos or files to an agent?

Yes, in an agent's own chat:

  • Click the + button in the message box, drag files into the chat, or paste them.
  • Up to 4 attachments per message.
  • Images: JPEG, PNG, WebP or GIF. Videos: MP4 or MOV.
  • Text files: .txt, .md, .csv, .json or .html.
  • PDF and Word (.docx) files, up to 50 MB. The agent reads the text in them, not the pictures, so a scanned PDF (pictures of pages) shows "Failed".
  • Pasting a very long piece of text (about 1,500 characters or more) attaches it as "Pasted text" instead of filling the message box.

If a file shows "Failed", remove it and try again. "Only JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF images or MP4/MOV videos." means the file type isn't supported. "No text in this PDF. It may be scanned pages (pictures of text)." means the PDF has no readable text: copy the text out and paste it instead.

Attachments are not available in channels yet. Channels are text only.

What are the slash commands in an agent chat?

Type / in an agent's message box to see quick starters: /plan, /draft, /repurpose, /queue, /review and /images. Picking one fills in a starter message (for example "Plan the week and fill my queue.") that you can edit before sending. They are most useful with publishing agents like the X Agent, LinkedIn Agent and Substack Agent.

How do I stop an agent's reply?

While the agent is working, the send button turns into a square Stop button. Click it to stop the reply.

You can also just send another message while the agent is working. Your new message steers the reply that is in progress.

How do I answer a question card from an agent?

Agents sometimes ask a question as a card with lettered options (A, B, C…).

  • Click an option, or
  • Type your own answer in the Type your own answer box and click Submit, or
  • Click Skip.

You can also answer by typing the letter, the option's text, or your own answer in the normal message box. Once answered, the card locks.

What is the "Approve / Not now" card in an agent chat?

When an agent is in Pilot mode and wants to publish or schedule a post, it shows a card such as "Publish this post now?" or "Schedule this post?" with Approve and Not now buttons.

  • Approve lets the agent go ahead. The card then shows "Approved".
  • Not now declines. The card shows "Declined" and nothing goes out.

See "Reviewing agent posts" for the full review flow and Pilot vs Autopilot.

How do I open an agent's side panel?

Click the agent's name and picture at the top of its chat (on a phone, tap the name). The side panel opens with tabs. Which tabs you see depends on the agent:

  • X Agent, LinkedIn Agent, Threads Agent, Substack Agent: Info, Queue, CTAs, Memory.
  • Designer: Info, Brand, Memory.
  • AI Cole: Info, Memory.

For publishing agents, the Info tab holds the connected account, the Mode (Pilot or Autopilot), the Queue schedule and Routines.

How do I rename an agent or change how it looks?

  1. Open the agent's side panel (click its name at the top of the chat).
  2. Click the gear icon to open Agent settings.
  3. Change the Name (up to 60 characters), Colour or Shape. Back to the default look resets it.
  4. Click Save.

What does the agent's Memory tab show?

The Memory tab in an agent's side panel lists what the agent keeps in mind across conversations: your preferred tone, cadence or formats, your standing goals, and facts you asked it to remember. It does not save passwords or secrets, one-off drafts, or the status of the current task.

If it says "Nothing saved yet", the agent hasn't saved anything for you yet.

You can't edit or delete memories from the tab. To remove one, tell the agent in its chat, for example "Forget that I want posts in lowercase." To add one, say "Remember that…".

What is a channel?

A channel is a chat where several of your agents work on one job together with you. For example, the Designer makes a carousel and your LinkedIn Agent posts it, or your X Agent and LinkedIn Agent repurpose the same essay for each platform.

Each agent in a channel keeps its own queue, plans and connected account. A channel holds up to 6 agents.

How do I create a channel?

  1. In the left sidebar, click the + next to Your Agents (on a phone, the + at the top of the home screen).
  2. Choose New channel.
  3. Type a Name (for example "weekly-repurposing").
  4. Under Members, tick the agents to include (up to 6).
  5. Click Create channel.

Agents that haven't finished setup show "Finish setup first" and can't be added yet. If you haven't hired any agents, you need to hire one first.

The channel appears in your sidebar list as "#name".

How do I talk to a specific agent in a channel?

Type @ in the channel's message box and pick an agent from the list, or type its name, for example "@X Agent" or "@Designer".

  • A message that mentions one or more agents goes to those agents.
  • A message that mentions no one, or @everyone, goes to every agent in the channel.
  • Agents answer one after another. An agent with nothing to add stays quiet.
  • Agents can hand work to each other by @-mentioning a teammate in their reply, for example the Designer handing a finished carousel to the LinkedIn Agent.

Click a mentioned agent's name to open that agent's own chat.

When does a channel conversation stop?

The agents in a channel keep working on your message until they have nothing more to add. A round of work also ends after 3 rounds of replies, 10 replies, or 45 minutes, whichever comes first.

To stop the agents early, click the square Stop button. Sending a new message also stops the current round and starts on your new message.

Agents in a channel only reply to your messages (or a channel routine). They don't post in the channel on their own.

Do agents publish from a channel?

Agents in a channel can draft, schedule and publish posts to their own accounts, the same as in their own chats. They follow their mode:

  • Pilot: the post waits for your review. Its card in the channel lets you approve it whenever you like.
  • Autopilot: the post goes into that agent's queue and publishes on schedule.

How do I add or remove agents in a channel?

  1. Open the channel and click its name at the top to open the side panel.
  2. Under the members list, click + (Add an agent to the channel) and pick an agent, or hover over a member and click the X to remove it.

Removed agents stay hired. Their earlier messages stay in the channel, labelled "Former member".

Can I add AI Cole to a channel?

Yes. AI Cole has no setup, so you can add it to any channel as soon as it's hired. In a channel it coaches and gives feedback on what the other agents write. It doesn't publish or schedule posts.

An agent in my channel said it "couldn't reply"

When an agent can't answer in a channel, a red line appears where its reply would be, such as "AI Cole couldn’t reply. You have used your weekly AI allowance." It says why:

  • Out of AI usage: click Manage usage to open AI Usage in Settings, then buy extra usage or turn on auto-reload. See "My agent says I've used my weekly AI allowance".
  • No active plan: click Open Billing to choose a plan.
  • "Our AI provider is temporarily unavailable" or "The model is temporarily unavailable": wait a little and send your message again. Nothing is wrong with your account.

Sending the same message again before fixing the reason gives the same line.

How do I rename or delete a channel?

  1. Open the channel's side panel (click its name at the top).
  2. Click the gear icon to open Channel settings.
  3. Change the Name and click Save, or click Delete channel.

On a computer you can also right-click the channel in the sidebar and choose Delete channel.

Deleting a channel removes its messages and routines. The agents in it stay hired, and their own chats, queues and posts are not affected. This can't be undone.

What does "Add an agent to the channel first." mean?

The channel has no agents in it, so there is no one to answer. Open the channel's side panel and click + to add an agent.

Why can't I add an agent to a channel?

An agent has to finish its setup (for example connecting its account) before it can join a channel. Agents that aren't set up show "Finish setup first". Open the agent's own chat, finish setup, then add it. AI Cole has no setup, so it can always join.

A channel also holds at most 6 agents. Remove one before adding another.
