How does the Digital Brain fill itself?
You don't build the Digital Brain by hand. It fills from six places:
- Your Typeshare posts. Every post you have published from Typeshare is read in, and each new post is added when you publish it.
- Your X history. When you connect X and confirm it's your account, your past X posts are imported.
- Your LinkedIn history. When you connect LinkedIn and give your profile link, your past LinkedIn posts are imported.
- Your Threads history. When you connect Threads and confirm it's your account, your past Threads posts are imported.
- Your Instagram history. When you connect Instagram and confirm it's your account, the captions of your past Instagram posts and Reels are imported.
- Your Substack posts and Notes. When you connect Substack, Typeshare asks "Is this your Substack account?" and shows the account and its publications (logo, name and address): the ones newsletters can go out on and whose posts it would import. Click Yes, this is my account and the posts you wrote on each of those publications start importing (paid ones too), along with your Substack Notes (an account with no publication imports its Notes); Not this account disconnects Substack so you can connect the right one. The same question confirms the account Typeshare publishes your Notes and newsletters through. It's asked every time you connect Substack: if you disconnect and connect the same account again, Yes picks the import up where it left off, with nothing imported twice. Guest posts by other writers are left out. Each Substack piece shows its publication's name at the bottom of its card. Importing needs Substack connected (see "How do I import my Substack posts?").
You can also import your website or blog, like a WordPress site (see "How do I import my website or blog?").
After the first import, new X, LinkedIn, Threads, Instagram, Substack and website posts are read in every day. You can also add notes, links and topic interview answers yourself.
Who gets Digital Brain imports?
Importing into the Digital Brain needs an active trial or paid plan. Without one, nothing is imported, and trying to import shows "Start your trial to import your posts into your Digital Brain."
If your trial or plan ends, your X, LinkedIn, Threads, Instagram, Substack and website imports pause. The posts already in your Digital Brain stay. If you start a plan again, the imports that paused pick up where they left off. See the billing help for plans and trials.
How do I import my X, LinkedIn or Threads posts into the Digital Brain?
From the Digital Brain page:
- Click Digital Brain in the left sidebar.
- If your brain is empty, click the From X, From LinkedIn or From Threads tile. Otherwise click Import in the top right and choose From X, From LinkedIn or From Threads.
- If the account isn't connected yet (the menu says Connect), sign in to it.
- Answer the "Is this your X account?" (or "Is this your Threads account?") question (see below). For LinkedIn, paste your profile link.
You can also connect accounts in Settings → Channels or on the Getting started page. Wherever you connect X, LinkedIn or Threads, you're asked the same question, and the import starts once you confirm.
A platform that's already importing into your Digital Brain doesn't appear in the Import menu, because there's nothing left to do by hand.
Does the Digital Brain import my Threads posts?
Yes. Connect Threads and answer Yes, this is my account when Typeshare asks "Is this your Threads account?". Your past Threads posts are imported (your last two years, up to 1,000 posts), and new ones are read every day after that.
- Connect Threads in Settings → Channels, on the Getting started page, or from the Digital Brain page (Import > From Threads, or the From Threads tile on an empty brain).
- A thread you wrote as several posts comes in as one piece, with every part. Replies you wrote to other people, and reposts, are left out.
- Each Threads piece shows its views, likes, replies and reposts, like your X and LinkedIn posts. Posts from the last 90 days are also tracked like posts you publish from Typeshare, so their numbers keep updating.
- Posts you published to Threads from Typeshare are already in your Digital Brain as Typeshare posts, so they aren't added twice.
- To see only these posts, choose Filter > Threads.
- If you connected Threads before this import existed, your Threads posts start importing on their own, with nothing for you to do.
Does the Digital Brain import my Instagram posts?
Yes, for a Creator or Business Instagram account (Instagram only lets those connect). Connect Instagram and answer Yes, this is my account when Typeshare asks "Is this your Instagram account?". Your past feed posts and Reels are imported (your last two years, up to 1,000 posts), and new ones are read every day after that.
- Connect Instagram in Settings → Channels, or from the Digital Brain page (Import > From Instagram). Instagram is listed once the Instagram Agent opens.
- A post comes in as its caption, with its picture, carousel or Reel cover. A post with no caption is left out: there's nothing written to learn from.
- Stories aren't imported: they're gone after a day.
- Each Instagram piece shows its views, likes, comments, shares and saves. Posts from the last 90 days are also tracked like posts you publish from Typeshare, so their numbers keep updating.
- Posts you published to Instagram from Typeshare are already in your Digital Brain as Typeshare posts, so they aren't added twice.
- A caption with the same words as one of your X, Threads or LinkedIn posts is linked to it as Posted N times (the hashtags at the end don't count against the match), and only the first counts toward your Brain Score.
- To see only these posts, choose Filter > Instagram (it shows once Instagram feeds your brain).
I posted the same thing more than once. Does it count twice in my Brain Score?
No. When the same words go out more than once (on X and Threads, on LinkedIn and X, as an Instagram caption, as a Substack Note, or on the same platform again a year later), your Digital Brain links them, however far apart you posted them. Only the first time counts toward your Brain Score; the others never add to it, to your topics or to the map.
Every time you posted it still shows in your posts, with its own date and numbers:
- On the card, Posted 3 times shows it's one of a group. The first one shows its Brain Score on the card; the later ones don't.
- Open any of them: Posted 3 times on the right lists each time it went out, one line each (platform, date and its views or likes; the first one says "first"), with the total views next to the heading. Click a line to open that one in the same window. To open a post on its platform, use Published on above.
"The same words" means the same post give or take a small edit, ignoring links, @mentions and emoji. Posts with fewer than 5 words are never linked. New posts are checked a few times a day.
Does the Digital Brain import my Substack Notes?
Yes. When you answer Yes, this is my account to "Is this your Substack account?", your Notes come in along with your newsletter posts (your last 500 Notes, newest first), and new Notes are read every day after that. If you connected Substack before Notes were imported, they start on their own, with nothing for you to do, even if you don't have a publication.
- Only Notes you wrote come in. Restacks of other people's Notes, and your replies, are left out.
- Notes you published from Typeshare are already in your Digital Brain, so they aren't added twice.
- Each Note shows its likes, replies and restacks (as Reposts). Notes from the last 90 days are also tracked like posts you publish from Typeshare, so their numbers keep updating.
- A Note with the same words as another of your posts (an X post, a Threads post, an earlier Note) is linked to it, and only the first counts toward your Brain Score (see "I posted the same thing more than once").
- Notes show under Filter > Substack, and under Short Form in the post types. On the Digital Brain page, the Substack icon counts newsletters and Notes together as posts; Settings → Channels counts them apart, like "3 newsletters · 12 Notes".
- Importing Notes needs Substack connected with a working login. If it says the login ended, reconnect Substack in Settings → Channels.
How do I import my Substack posts?
Connect Substack in Settings → Channels, then answer Yes, this is my account when asked. The import starts for every publication you write for, and shows "Importing your posts from [publication]…". Importing needs Substack connected; you can't import a publication by pasting its address.
If it hasn't started (you connected before imports existed, or had no trial or plan then), or the last import failed:
- Click Digital Brain in the left sidebar.
- Click Import in the top right and choose From Substack (on an empty brain, click the From Substack tile). You can also hover over the Substack icon at the top of the panel on the right of the Digital Brain page and click Import or Retry.
- The window lists your publications. Click Import my posts (or Import again after a failed import). Without Substack connected, it says so, with Go to Channels.
Each Substack piece in your Digital Brain shows the Substack account that posted it, Substack's mark, and its likes, comments and restacks as they were when it was imported. Posts from the last 90 days are also tracked like posts you publish from Typeshare, so their numbers keep updating.
Paid posts come in whole. Posts you published to Substack from Typeshare are skipped because they're already in your brain. If you posted the same piece as an X Article within a week (same title), your Digital Brain keeps one piece with both links instead of two copies. Up to 500 posts are read per publication, newest first, and new posts are added once a day after that. If an import fails, Import again retries it without adding a post twice.
How do I import my website or blog?
- Open the Digital Brain page.
- Click Import in the top right and choose From a website or blog (on an empty brain, click the From a website tile).
- Paste your site's address, like
https://yourblog.com, and click Find my posts. - Check your site's name, about how many posts it has and a few of the newest titles. If more than one person writes there, pick yours under Which posts are yours? (or All authors).
- Click Import posts.
To see the sites you've imported, hover over (or tap) the globe icon at the top of the posts panel on the Digital Brain page (with no topic selected).
Typeshare reads WordPress sites through WordPress itself, other blogs through their RSS feed or sitemap, and Medium through your Medium feed. A site with none of these is read page by page, like a search engine would, which can take up to an hour; its new pages are checked once a week. Up to 500 posts are read per site, newest first (200 on sites read page by page, like Ghost, Squarespace or Webflow), then new posts once a day. You can import several sites. Substack addresses go through From Substack. If no posts are found, paste your blog page's address (like https://yoursite.com/blog).
How do I remove a website from my Digital Brain?
- Open the Digital Brain page.
- With no topic selected, hover over (or tap) the globe icon with the website count at the top of the posts panel on the right.
- Each site is listed with how many posts it has in your Digital Brain, when it last synced and when it syncs next. Click Remove next to the one you want to stop.
- Choose what happens to its posts:
- Keep posts: Typeshare stops reading new posts from the site. The posts already imported stay in your Digital Brain. You can still see them with Filter > Websites.
- Remove posts: Typeshare stops reading the site and takes its imported posts out of your Digital Brain too.
Cancel leaves everything as it was. To read a site again later, import it again with Import > From a website or blog.
What does "Is this your X account?" mean?
When you connect X or Threads, Typeshare asks "Is this your X account?" (or "Is this your Threads account?") and shows the account's name, photo and handle. It needs an answer before you can carry on.
- Yes, this is my account starts a one-time import of your past posts into your Digital Brain. A message confirms "Importing your past X posts into your Digital Brain." (or Threads).
- Not this account disconnects that account, so nothing is imported from it.
If you signed up for Typeshare with X or LinkedIn, that counts as confirming. You aren't asked, and the import starts on its own once you're in the app.
Why does LinkedIn ask for my profile link?
LinkedIn doesn't share your profile address with Typeshare, and the Digital Brain needs it to find your posts. So after you connect LinkedIn, a dialog called "One more thing needed for LinkedIn" asks for it:
- Click Open my LinkedIn profile, or open your profile yourself.
- Copy the address from your browser's address bar. It looks like
linkedin.com/in/your-name. - Paste it in the box and click Import my posts.
The dialog then says "Importing your LinkedIn posts" and you can click Done. Pasting your own profile link counts as confirming the account. If the account isn't yours, click Not my account instead. Not now closes the dialog without importing.
If you skipped this step, the Digital Brain page shows "Your LinkedIn posts are not in your Digital Brain yet: it needs your profile link." Click Add link to finish. Settings → Channels shows "Profile link needed for your Digital Brain" with the same Add link button.
How far back does the Digital Brain import my posts?
- X: your last year of posts, up to 1,000 posts. To add everything older, upload your X archive (see "How do I add my older X posts with my X archive?").
- LinkedIn: up to your last two years of posts.
- Threads: your last two years of posts, up to 1,000 posts.
- Instagram: your last two years of feed posts and Reels, up to 1,000 posts. Posts with no caption and Stories are left out.
- Substack: your last 500 posts. Paid posts only when Substack is connected.
- Websites and blogs: your last 500 posts per site (200 on sites read page by page, like Ghost, Squarespace or Webflow). Members-only posts may be left out.
- Typeshare: every post you have published from Typeshare.
Only published posts are imported. Drafts are not in the Digital Brain.
Are LinkedIn reposts imported into my Digital Brain?
No. The LinkedIn import only reads posts you wrote yourself. Reposts are skipped, both a plain repost and a repost where you added your own words on top. This is the same for the first import of your history and for the new posts read every day.
If you want something you said in a repost in your Digital Brain, write it as its own LinkedIn post, or add it to your Digital Brain as a note.
How long does a Digital Brain import take?
Imports run in the background, so you can close the page or keep working. Posts arrive newest first and show up as they are read and sorted into topics. Larger histories take longer.
While an import is running:
- Digital Brain in the left sidebar shows a spinner.
- An empty Digital Brain page says "Importing your X posts. This page fills in on its own." (or LinkedIn, or Threads), or "Reading what you have published…".
- The legend at the bottom of the Digital Brain page shows what's happening, such as "Importing posts…" or "Reading 12 pieces…". Hover over it to see each job under "Your Digital Brain is working".
- On the Digital Brain page, hovering over a platform icon shows "Importing…" while its count goes up, for Substack too. In your Digital Brain in the account's row in Settings → Channels shows "Importing… [number] so far".
- The Import your Substack posts window (Import > From Substack) shows the same progress.
Your Typeshare posts are usually picked up within a few minutes of opening the app for the first time.
How do I check the status of my Digital Brain imports?
On the Digital Brain page with no bubble selected, the platform icons on the right show each platform's post count. Hover over one (or tap it) for its state, such as "Importing…", "Synced 3h ago" or "Not connected", with a Connect, Reconnect, Import, Resume or Retry button when something is missing.
Settings → Channels shows the same count for each account: click the X, LinkedIn, Threads, Instagram or Substack row and look at In your Digital Brain.
Where did the Digital Brain tab in Settings go?
It was removed. Everything it showed is now in two places:
- The platform icons on the Digital Brain page: each platform's post count; hover for its import state and the Connect, Reconnect, Import, Resume or Retry button.
- Settings → Channels: click an account to see In your Digital Brain (its post count and state). The open X row also has Upload X archive for older posts at the bottom.
How do I add my older X posts with my X archive?
The X import covers your last year, up to 1,000 posts. To add everything before that, upload the archive X gives you. You only need to do this once.
Before you start, X must already be connected and importing into your Digital Brain, and the archive must be from that same X account.
- Open Settings → Channels, click the X row, and click Upload X archive for older posts at the bottom.
- Click Open X's archive page and press Request archive on X.
- Wait for X's notification that your archive is ready. It can take a day. Download the .zip.
- Back in Typeshare, click Upload archive (.zip) and pick the file. If your computer unzipped it for you, click Choose folder and pick the folder it unzipped to.
The archive is read on your device. Only your posts' text is sent to Typeshare, never your messages, photos or anything else in it. Retweets, replies to other people and media are not imported. When it's done you'll see "Importing [number] posts". Posts already in your Digital Brain aren't added twice.
Why did my X archive upload fail?
The X archive dialog shows what went wrong:
- "This doesn't look like an X archive." Upload the .zip X sent you, or choose the folder it unzipped to (the one with a
datafolder inside). - "This archive is from a different X account than the one connected here." Connect the X account the archive belongs to, or upload the archive for the connected account.
- "Connect your X account first, then upload its archive." Connect X in Settings → Channels and confirm it, then try again.
- "Your X posts are still importing. Upload the archive again once that finishes." Wait for the regular X import to finish (hover over the X icon on the Digital Brain page to see its status), then upload again.
- "That archive is too large." or "Upload the archive again." Try the upload again. If it keeps failing, contact support.
What happens to my Digital Brain if I disconnect X, LinkedIn, Threads or Instagram?
Disconnecting an X, LinkedIn, Threads or Instagram account pauses its imports into your Digital Brain. New posts from that account stop coming in.
The posts that account already imported stay in your Digital Brain, along with their topics and Brain Score. Disconnecting does not delete them.
To resume, reconnect the account in Settings → Channels and confirm it's yours. Imports pick up where they left off, and your history isn't imported a second time.
If an account was never yours and you disconnected it after it imported, its posts stay in your Digital Brain. Remove them one at a time (open a post, then Remove from Digital Brain at the bottom of the panel on the right), or contact support to have them all removed at once.
Why aren't my posts showing up in my Digital Brain?
Check these in order:
- It's still reading. Imports run in the background, newest posts first. Look for the spinner next to Digital Brain in the sidebar, or hover over the platform icons on the right of the Digital Brain page.
- A filter is on. If Filter in the top right shows X, LinkedIn, Threads, Instagram, Substack or Typeshare, set Platform back to All. Under All posts, set the type back to All and the time back to Any time.
- The post was published from Typeshare. A post you sent to X, LinkedIn, Threads or Instagram from Typeshare counts once, as a Typeshare post. Look under the Typeshare filter, not X, LinkedIn, Threads or Instagram.
- It's linked to an earlier post. A post with the same words as one you posted before still shows, with Posted 2 times on its card; it just doesn't add to your Brain Score.
- LinkedIn needs your profile link. If you see "Your LinkedIn posts are not in your Digital Brain yet: it needs your profile link", click Add link.
- The import is paused or failed. Hover over the platform's icon on the Digital Brain page. If it says "Paused" or "Import failed", click Resume or Retry, or reconnect the account in Settings → Channels and confirm it.
- The post is older than the import covers. X imports your last year (up to 1,000 posts), LinkedIn your last two years, and Threads your last two years (up to 1,000 posts). For older X posts, upload your X archive.
- It's a draft. Only published posts go into the Digital Brain. Turning a post back into a draft removes it.
- No trial or plan. Imports need an active trial or paid plan.
- Substack's login ended. If Substack's login has expired, only free posts can be read. Reconnect Substack in Settings → Channels and your publications are read again with your login, paid posts included.
- It's a LinkedIn repost. Reposts aren't imported, even with your own words added. Only posts you wrote yourself are.
- It couldn't be read. The legend may say "3 pieces failed". Those pieces could not be read into the Digital Brain.
- It's a Threads reply or repost. Only posts you wrote are imported, with your own replies under them as one thread. Replies to other people and reposts are left out.
If the Digital Brain page says "No recent X posts to learn from" (or LinkedIn, or Threads), the import finished but found no posts in the period it covers. New posts are read as you publish them. Until then, write a post or add a topic.
