Finding your way around

Where everything is in Typeshare: the left sidebar on a computer, the home screen and account screen on a phone, the account menu, dark mode, and installing Typeshare on your phone.

On this page15 sections

What is in the left sidebar?

On a computer, the left sidebar is how you move around Typeshare. From top to bottom:

  • Write: the editor, where you write, publish and schedule posts, threads and essays. This is where Typeshare opens on a computer.
  • Schedule: a week or month calendar of everything going out, from you and your agents, with your open queue slots.
  • Digital Brain: everything Typeshare knows about what you think and write, organized into topics.
  • Media: your library of images and videos for posts.
  • Profile: your public Typeshare profile page.
  • Your Agents: the agents you have hired and any channels, newest activity first. The + button next to the heading has Hire an agent and New channel.
  • Templates: ready-made post and essay templates to start from.
  • Marketplace: browse agents to hire and plugins to connect.
  • Finish your setup: a card showing how much of the Getting started checklist you have done. Click it to open Getting started. It disappears once every step is done, and you can hide it with its X.
  • Ty is not in the sidebar: he sits in the bottom right corner of every page (on the Digital Brain, just left of the posts panel, so he never covers your posts). Click him to ask anything.
  • Your name and picture: opens the account menu (Explore, Settings, Help & feedback, Log out).

Each area has its own help doc: Write and publishing, the Digital Brain, Media, Agents and the Marketplace.

How do I collapse or resize the sidebar?

  • Collapse: click the panel button at the top right of the sidebar (Collapse sidebar). The sidebar shrinks to icons only.
  • Expand: hover over the collapsed sidebar and click the panel button (Expand sidebar), or click any empty space in it.
  • Resize: drag the sidebar's right edge.

When you open a post in the editor, the sidebar collapses automatically to give you more room. It comes back when you leave the editor.

Why is there a spinner next to Digital Brain in the sidebar?

The spinner means Typeshare is working on your Digital Brain in the background, for example importing your posts or reading new pieces. Hover over Digital Brain to see what it is doing, such as "Importing posts…" or "Reading 12 pieces…".

You can keep using Typeshare while it runs. The spinner goes away when it finishes.

Where is the account menu?

On a computer, click your name and picture at the very bottom of the left sidebar. The menu has:

  • Explore: the latest posts from writers you follow, a search for people by name and suggested writers to follow (see "How do I follow other writers?" and "How do I find someone on Typeshare by name?").
  • Settings: your account, profile, connected accounts, Digital Brain, writing defaults and billing.
  • Help & feedback: send a message to the Typeshare team.
  • Log out: sign out of Typeshare on this device.

On a phone, tap your picture at the top left of the home screen instead (see "How do I find Settings on a phone?").

Where is Settings?

On a computer: click your name at the bottom of the left sidebar, then Settings. Settings opens in a window over the page you are on. Pick a tab on the left: General, Profile, Channels, Digital Brain, Writing, AI Usage (All-Access plan only) and Billing.

On a phone: tap your picture at the top left of the home screen, then pick a row under Settings. Settings fills the screen, with the tabs in a row along the top.

Close Settings with the X in the corner.

How does Typeshare work on a phone?

On a phone, Typeshare is laid out like a messaging app. The home screen lists your chats with agents and channels, newest first. It has:

  • Your picture (top left): opens your account screen.
  • Schedule (calendar, top right): opens the Schedule calendar of your queued and published posts.
  • Search (magnifying glass): search your chats by name or message.
  • New chat (+): Hire an agent or New channel.
  • Four tiles: Write, Brain (your Digital Brain), Media and Profile.
  • Your chats: tap one to open it. A dot at the right of a chat means it has something unread. Working… in place of the time means the agent is busy right now.

Every other page has a back button at the top left that returns you to the home screen.

If you open Typeshare in a wide browser window, you get the computer layout with the left sidebar instead.

How do I find Settings on a phone?

Tap your picture at the top left of the phone home screen. The account screen has:

  • Your name and email: tap to open your public profile.
  • Explore: the latest posts from writers you follow, and a search for people by name.
  • AI Usage: on the All-Access plan only.
  • Agents: Getting started (the setup checklist), Hire an agent, Marketplace.
  • Settings: General, Connected accounts, Digital Brain, Billing, Help & feedback.
  • Log out.

The Profile and Writing settings tabs are not listed on the account screen. Open any setting (for example General), then tap Profile or Writing in the row of tabs along the top.

Where are Templates on a phone?

Templates is in the left sidebar on a computer. It is not one of the phone home tiles. On a phone, go to typeshare.co/2/templates in your browser, or use a computer.

How do I follow other writers?

Click Follow on a writer's profile page, or next to their name at the top of one of their posts. The button changes to Following. Click it again to unfollow.

To see what the people you follow have published, open the account menu (your name at the bottom of the left sidebar) > Explore. On a phone, tap your picture on the home screen, then Explore. The Explore page (typeshare.co/2/explore) lists their latest posts, newest first.

On someone's profile page, the arrow at the top left takes you back to Explore.

How do I find writers to follow?

On the Explore page, Suggested writers (on the right on a computer) lists the other people in your group (for example your Ship 30 cohort) whom you don't follow yet, the ones who publish most often first. If you aren't in a group, or already follow everyone in it, it lists people who have published a lot in the last 30 days instead. Click a name to open their profile, or Follow to follow them straight away. On a phone, the suggestions show on the Explore page until you follow someone.

To look up a particular person instead, see "How do I find someone on Typeshare by name?".

How do I find someone on Typeshare by name?

Use the search field on the Explore page (typeshare.co/2/explore):

  1. Open the account menu (your name at the bottom of the left sidebar) > Explore. On a phone, tap your picture on the home screen, then Explore.
  2. Click the Search people by name or @username field. On a computer it is at the top of the Suggested writers box on the right. On a phone it is at the top of the page, above the posts (or in the Suggested writers box if you don't follow anyone yet).
  3. Type at least 2 letters of their name or username, for example Laurel, Laurel Sm or @laurel. Capitals don't matter.
  4. Up to 10 people show, each with their picture, name and @username. People in your group (for example your Ship 30 cohort or AIWS) come first.
  5. Click a name to open their profile, or Follow to follow them straight away. The X in the field clears the search and brings back the suggested writers.

Each word you type matches the start of a word in their name or username, so smith finds "Laurel Smith", but letters from the middle of a word (like aure) don't. If you see "No one on Typeshare matches", check the spelling, try just their first or last name, or ask them for their Typeshare @username. You won't see yourself in the results.

Why did I get "Error following user"?

You need to be signed in to follow someone. If you click Follow while signed out, Typeshare now asks you to sign in and brings you back to the page. If you still see the error while signed in, refresh the page and try again, then message us from Help & feedback if it keeps happening.

Does Typeshare have dark mode?

Yes. Typeshare follows your device's appearance setting. If your computer or phone is set to dark mode, Typeshare is dark. If it is set to light, Typeshare is light.

There is no separate dark mode switch inside Typeshare. To change it, change your device's or browser's appearance setting.

Dark mode applies to the new Typeshare app only. Classic Typeshare stays light.

How do I install Typeshare on my phone?

Typeshare is not in the App Store. You can still add it to your home screen so it opens full screen like an app.

iPhone or iPad (Safari):

  1. Open typeshare.co in Safari and sign in.
  2. Tap the Share button.
  3. Tap Add to Home Screen, then Add.

Android (Chrome): open typeshare.co, sign in, open the browser menu and choose the option to install the app or add it to your home screen.

The Typeshare icon then appears on your home screen. It opens straight to your chats, without the browser's address bar.

Where is the Queue?

The Queue page is now Schedule, in the left sidebar under Write. It's a calendar of your posts and your agents' posts, with your open queue slots. typeshare.co/2/queue opens it too, or ask Ty (Open Schedule). On a phone, tap the calendar button at the top right of the home screen, next to the magnifying glass. See the scheduling help for how it works.

Still stuck? Ask Ty, bottom right. Or email help@typeshare.co.
