The Getting started page

Getting started is the checklist that sets up a new Typeshare account in four steps: connect your platforms, build your Digital Brain, publish your first post, and hire an agent. This doc covers how to open it, what each step asks, what finishes it, and the Finish your setup card in the sidebar.

What is the Getting started page?

It is the first page you see after signing up and choosing a plan. It greets you ("Welcome, [your first name]") and says "Welcome to Typeshare! Let's get you set up, this will only take a minute."

Below that are four steps, in order:

  1. Connect your platforms (1 min)
  2. Build your Digital Brain (1 min)
  3. Publish your first post (5 mins)
  4. Explore and hire an agent (1 min)

Each step reads what you have actually done in your account, so it ticks itself off when you do the thing, wherever you do it. A finished step shows a green check and a short line saying what was done, such as the platforms you connected.

How do I open the Getting started page?

  • After signing up: once your plan is set up, click Continue to Typeshare on the welcome screen. It opens Getting started.
  • On a computer: click the Finish your setup card near the bottom of the left sidebar. If the sidebar is collapsed, the card is a small rocket icon.
  • On a phone: tap your picture at the top left of the home screen, then Getting started (under Agents).
  • Anywhere: go to typeshare.co/2/getting-started, or ask Ty in the bottom right corner of the page and he can link you there (Open Getting started).

How do I open, close or move between steps?

The first step you have not finished opens on its own. Click a step's title to open it, and click it again to close it. You can open any step, in any order.

When a step is ready, a Next button appears at the bottom right of it. Next closes that step and opens the following one.

Step 1: Connect your platforms

"Typeshare needs access to your social platforms to publish posts and build your Digital Brain."

The step shows a tile for each platform: X, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky and Substack. Click a tile to connect it:

  • X, LinkedIn and Threads: you go to that platform to sign in and approve access, then come back to Getting started. You see a message such as "X connected."
  • Bluesky: a sign-in window opens over the page.
  • Substack: a window walks you through connecting it. Connecting Substack needs Chrome on a computer.

A connected tile shows a check and Connected. A tile that says Needs reconnect means the platform's sign-in has expired or its access was removed. Click it to sign in again.

When you connect X, LinkedIn or Threads, Typeshare asks whether the account is yours before it imports your past posts into your Digital Brain (for LinkedIn, it asks for your profile link). See the Digital Brain imports help for details.

If a connection fails, a window explains what went wrong and lets you try again. See the connection problems help for common causes.

When is the Connect your platforms step finished?

Connecting one platform does not finish the step on its own, so you can add more first. Once at least one platform is connected, click Next. That finishes the step and opens Build your Digital Brain.

The finished step lists the platforms you connected. You can connect more later in Settings > Channels.

Step 2: Build your Digital Brain

"Your brain reads your Typeshare posts and every account you connect, on its own."

There is nothing to build by hand. The step lists each source your brain reads from and where it stands:

  • Typeshare posts (if you have published on Typeshare): Reading… while it works, then how many posts were read (for example "120 read"). Not read yet means it has not started.
  • X, LinkedIn and Threads (if connected):
    • Importing…: your posts are coming in.
    • Synced: your posts are in and kept up to date.
    • Paused with a Resume button: the import stopped, for example after the account was disconnected. Click Resume to carry on.
    • Import stopped with a Try again button: the import failed. Click Try again.
    • Needs profile link with an Add link button (LinkedIn only): LinkedIn does not share your profile address, so paste it to start the import.
    • Not imported with an Import button: click it to confirm the account and start importing.

While posts are importing, the step says "This keeps going in the background. You don't need to wait: carry on to the next step."

Only X, LinkedIn and Threads posts are imported here (Substack and websites import from the Digital Brain page). If nothing is connected and you have not published on Typeshare, the step says "Connect X, LinkedIn or Threads, or publish on Typeshare, and your brain reads it on its own."

How do I add a topic from Getting started?

In the Build your Digital Brain step:

  • Add a topic opens your Digital Brain with the new topic box ready, so you can add something you know about beyond what your posts cover.
  • Open your Digital Brain appears once your brain has posts in it.
  • If nothing is connected and your brain has no posts yet, the step offers Add a topic you know instead, or, if you already made a topic, Answer your first question about [topic], which starts a topic interview.

When is the Build your Digital Brain step finished?

The step is finished as soon as your brain has something in it: a post, an imported post, or a topic you made. An X, LinkedIn or Threads import that is under way also counts, so you do not have to wait for it to end.

One exception: if LinkedIn is connected but still needs your profile link, the step stays open until you add it. Clicking Next then asks for the link instead of moving on.

When finished, the step says what your brain is doing, for example "Importing your X posts in the background", "Up to date with your Typeshare and LinkedIn posts", or "Started from a topic you know".

Step 3: Publish your first post

"Write and publish your first post on Typeshare. Your Digital Brain learns from every post."

Click Write a post to open the Write page, write something and publish it.

The step is finished once you have published a post yourself from Typeshare. Posts your agents publish do not count. When finished, it shows how many posts you have published, for example "1 post published".

Step 4: Explore and hire an agent

"Agents use your Digital Brain to help run your social media accounts."

The step shows a tile for each agent. Click a tile to hire that agent. You go straight to its chat, where publishing agents start with a short setup (see the hiring agents help).

  • Hired · Open: you have already hired this agent. Click it to open its chat.
  • Soon: this agent is not available to hire yet.

The step is finished once you have hired any agent. It then lists the agents you hired.

What happens when every step is done?

Every step shows a green check and a one-line summary. The Finish your setup card disappears from the sidebar.

The Getting started page itself stays. You can still open it at typeshare.co/2/getting-started (or Getting started on a phone) to check what is connected or importing.

What is the Finish your setup card in the sidebar?

On a computer, a small Finish your setup card sits near the bottom of the left sidebar, above your name. It shows how far along you are (for example "50% completed") with a progress bar. While it loads it says Checking…. Click the card to open Getting started.

Each finished step adds 25%. The card goes away on its own once all four steps are done.

How do I hide the Finish your setup card?

Click the small X at the top right of the card (Hide setup card). The card stays hidden in that browser, even if you have not finished every step.

Hiding the card does not change your progress. To get back to the checklist, go to typeshare.co/2/getting-started, tap Getting started on the phone account screen, or ask Ty for the link.

Do I have to finish Getting started to use Typeshare?

No. Every page works whether or not you finish the steps, and you can do them in any order or come back later. The page remembers what you have done because it reads your account: your connected platforms, your Digital Brain, your published posts and your hired agents.
