Where do I connect my social accounts?
All social accounts live in Settings, on the Channels tab.
- Click your name at the bottom of the left sidebar.
- Choose Settings.
- Open the Channels tab.
On a phone, tap the Account button (your picture) on the chats home and choose Connected accounts under Settings.
Channels lists your connected accounts, one row each with your picture, the platform's logo, your name or @handle and a status: Connected, Needs you (something to fix) or Needs reconnecting. Click a row to open it and see its details and settings (followers, how many posts are in your Digital Brain, login expiry, X Premium, Substack publications) and Disconnect. Rows start closed; click again to close one.
Platforms you haven't connected are buttons under Add a channel (or Connect a channel if nothing is connected yet). Hover one to see what it's used for:
- X: Publishing, analytics, login
- LinkedIn: Publishing, analytics, login
- Threads: Publishing, analytics, the Threads Agent
- Instagram: Publishing, CTA comments, DMs to people who comment your CTA's word, analytics and Digital Brain import (Creator or Business account). Listed once the Instagram Agent opens.
- Bluesky: Publishing, analytics
- Substack: Publishing Notes and newsletters, through the Typeshare Connector extension, and importing your paid posts (not only free ones) into your Digital Brain
Your agents publish to these same accounts and learn from them.
You can also get to Channels from the Write editor. If a platform in your post isn't connected, the editor shows "isn't connected yet. You can preview, but not post." with a Connect button that opens Settings on Channels.
In the Atomic Essay and Deck publish window, a platform that isn't connected shows with a +. Click it and Settings opens on Channels right over your piece, so you stay in the editor. Connect the account there, close Settings and open the publish window again.
How do I connect X?
- Go to Settings > Channels.
- Under Add a channel, click X.
- X opens. Sign in to the X account you want to use and authorize Typeshare.
- You come back to Typeshare with Settings open on Channels and a "X connected." message.
Next, Typeshare asks "Is this your X account?" Choose Yes, this is my account to import your past X posts into your Digital Brain, or Not this account to disconnect it straight away. You aren't asked this for the X account you signed up with. The Digital Brain imports help covers this question in more detail.
Once X is connected, its row shows your name and @handle. To add posts older than a year, open the row and click Upload X archive for older posts at the bottom. Click the row to see whether X Premium is active (see "How do I get X Premium working with Typeshare?"). After a day or so, the open row also shows your follower count and how it has changed (see "Where can I see my follower growth?").
How do I connect LinkedIn?
- Go to Settings > Channels.
- Under Add a channel, click LinkedIn.
- LinkedIn opens. Sign in and allow Typeshare access.
- You come back to Typeshare with Settings open on Channels and a "LinkedIn connected." message.
LinkedIn never shares your profile link with apps, so Typeshare may then ask for it in a window called One more thing needed for LinkedIn. Paste your profile address (it looks like linkedin.com/in/your-name) and click Import my posts. You can choose Not now and add it later: the LinkedIn row in Channels then says Needs you; click it to see "Profile link needed for your Digital Brain." with an Add link button. The Digital Brain imports help explains why the link is needed.
LinkedIn connections expire after a while (LinkedIn's rule, about 60 days). Open the LinkedIn row to see "Expires in N days" next to Login. In the last 7 days before it expires, the row says Needs you and, when opened, has a Reconnect button so you can renew it before it lapses.
How do I connect Threads?
- Go to Settings > Channels.
- Under Add a channel, click Threads.
- Sign in to Threads and allow Typeshare access.
- You come back to Typeshare with a "Threads connected." message.
Next, Typeshare asks "Is this your Threads account?" Choose Yes, this is my account to import your past Threads posts into your Digital Brain, or Not this account to disconnect it straight away. The Digital Brain imports help covers this question in more detail.
Threads access is renewed automatically before it expires, so you normally never need to reconnect it. If the automatic renewal ever fails, the Threads row says Needs you; open it to see the expiry date and a Reconnect button.
How do I connect Instagram?
Instagram shows under Add a channel once the Instagram Agent opens; until then it isn't listed.
- Make sure your Instagram is a Creator or Business account (see "What Instagram account does the Instagram Agent need?" in the agents overview help).
- Go to Settings > Channels and, under Add a channel, click Instagram. Or click Connect Instagram on the Instagram Agent's setup screen.
- Sign in to Instagram and allow Typeshare access.
- You come back to Typeshare connected.
- Answer "Is this your Instagram account?". Yes, this is my account imports your past posts into your Digital Brain.
Instagram access lasts 60 days and Typeshare renews it automatically before then. If the renewal ever fails, the Instagram row says Needs you; open it to see the expiry date and a Reconnect button.
Why can't I connect Instagram?
Most often the account is a personal one: Instagram only lets Creator and Business accounts connect. Switch it in Instagram (☰ > Account type and tools > Switch to professional account), then click Connect again.
How do I connect Bluesky?
Bluesky uses an app password instead of a sign-in page.
- In Bluesky, create an app password (Bluesky Settings > App Passwords). Your normal Bluesky password will not work.
- In Typeshare, go to Settings > Channels.
- Under Add a channel, click Bluesky.
- In the Connect Bluesky window, enter your Username (for example handle.bsky.social or your own domain) and the App Password (it looks like xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx).
- Click Connect.
If Typeshare says "Invalid app password format" or "Invalid handle or app password", check you used an app password, not your login password, and that the handle is spelled correctly.
How do I connect Substack?
Substack doesn't let other apps log in to your account, so Typeshare posts to Substack through a free Chrome extension called the Typeshare Connector. Connecting takes three steps, and the window moves to the next step by itself.
- Go to Settings > Channels and, under Add a channel, click Substack.
- Step 1 of 3, Add the Typeshare Connector: click Get the extension, add it to Chrome, then come back to the Typeshare tab.
- Step 2 of 3, Log in to Substack: click Log in to Substack, log in to Substack in the same browser, then come back to the Typeshare tab.
- Step 3 of 3, Connecting to Typeshare: this runs on its own and takes a few seconds.
- You see Substack is connected. Click Done.
You need Chrome on a computer. Edge, Brave and Arc also work. Phones and tablets can't install extensions. If you open this on a browser that can't run the extension, Typeshare offers Copy link to this page so you can open the same step in Chrome on a computer.
The Connector connects whichever Substack account is logged in to Substack in that Chrome browser right now. If you're already logged in, it skips step 2. Before you click Connect, open substack.com in the same Chrome window and check it shows the profile you want. The Substack is connected window says "Notes will publish through @handle." so you can check which one you got.
Substack logins expire. Open the Substack row to see "Expires in N days" next to Login. In the last 7 days before it expires, the row says Needs you and, when opened, has a Reconnect button.
How do I switch to a different Substack account?
Typeshare connects whichever Substack account Chrome is logged in to, so change the login on Substack first:
- In Chrome, go to substack.com and log out.
- Log in to the Substack account you want. Check that your profile shows the right @handle.
- In Typeshare, go to Settings > Channels, click the Substack row and click Disconnect.
- Under Add a channel, click Substack and follow the Connector window. It picks up the account you just logged in to.
- Check that the Substack is connected window shows the right @handle.
Disconnecting and reconnecting without changing your Substack login connects the same account again.
I have more than one Substack publication. Which one do my newsletters go to?
If your Substack account runs or writes for more than one publication, click the Substack row in Settings > Channels to open it. Newsletters go to shows the default publication. Click it to open Available publications: each one with its logo and address, the default starred. Click another publication to make it the default: the publication your Long Form pieces go to unless you choose otherwise. You see "Newsletters now go to (name) by default."
Each Long Form piece can still go somewhere else: in Preview & Publish, click ··· and pick another publication under Substack. It changes only that piece. To make it your default instead, click Save as default platforms in the same window: newsletters then go to that publication by default, and Settings > Channels shows it under Newsletters go to.
Substack Notes aren't affected. They always go out from your own Substack profile.
How do I disconnect an account?
- Go to Settings > Channels.
- Click the account's row to open it.
- Click Disconnect at the bottom of the row.
- Confirm the message "Disconnect [platform] from Typeshare? Agents will stop publishing there."
You see "[platform] disconnected." when it's done. Agents stop publishing to that account. Posts already published on the platform stay where they are. For what happens to your Digital Brain when you disconnect X, LinkedIn or Threads, see the Digital Brain imports help.
If the account is the only way you sign in to Typeshare (for example you signed up with X and have no verified email), Typeshare won't disconnect it. You see "[platform] is the only way to sign in to this account." To change it, log out and log back in with that platform.
How do I disconnect an account that has no plan?
An account with no plan opens on the upgrade page.
- Click Settings at the bottom of the upgrade page.
- Click Channels. It lists only the accounts already connected.
- Click the account's row, click Disconnect and confirm.
You can't connect accounts from there; that needs a plan. If the account is the only way you sign in, you see "[platform] is the only way to sign in to this account, so it can't be disconnected. To free it for another Typeshare account, delete this account in General." Deleting the account frees the profile but also deletes everything on that account.
How do I reconnect an account?
LinkedIn and Substack offer Reconnect in Settings > Channels in the last 7 days before they expire, or once they need reconnecting. The row then says Needs you or Needs reconnecting. Threads shows one only if its automatic renewal failed or it has expired.
- Go to Settings > Channels.
- Click the account's row to open it.
- Click Reconnect.
- Sign in again on the platform (for Substack, the Connector window opens again).
X and Bluesky have no Reconnect button. If either shows Needs reconnecting, open the row and click Disconnect, then click the platform under Add a channel and sign in again.
If the account is your only way to sign in to Typeshare, reconnecting logs you out so you can sign back in with that platform.
Why don't I see a Reconnect button?
A connected LinkedIn or Substack account that still works says Connected, and its open row has only Disconnect. Reconnect appears in the last 7 days before the login expires (the row says Needs you), or when the row says Needs reconnecting. No Reconnect button means the connection is fine and nothing needs doing.
A LinkedIn row that says Needs you with "Profile link needed for your Digital Brain." inside is still connected and can publish. It only means your LinkedIn posts aren't in your Digital Brain yet: click Add link, not Reconnect.
What does "Your X connection has expired or was revoked" mean?
X stopped accepting Typeshare's access to your X account when you tried to post, for example because Typeshare was removed from your X connected apps or you changed your X password. Trying again won't help until you reconnect.
- Go to Settings > Channels.
- Open the X row and click Disconnect.
- Click X under Add a channel and sign in to the same X account.
- Go back to your post and post it again.
Can I connect more than one account on the same platform?
No. Settings > Channels holds one account per platform. To switch to a different X, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky or Substack account, disconnect the current one, then connect the other. For Substack, log in to the other account on substack.com first (see "How do I switch to a different Substack account?").
Each X, LinkedIn or Threads profile can only be connected to one Typeshare account at a time. See "What does 'This profile is already connected to another Typeshare account' mean?" in the connection problems help. If the other account has no plan and hasn't been used in 60 days, Connect moves an X or LinkedIn profile over for you.
How many of my posts are in my Digital Brain?
In Settings > Channels, click your X, LinkedIn, Threads or Substack account. In your Digital Brain shows how many of its posts the Digital Brain holds and where the import stands, for example "4,213 posts · synced 3h ago" (Substack counts newsletters and Notes apart, for example "3 newsletters · 12 Notes"), "Importing… 1,200 so far", "paused" or "import failed". Bluesky posts aren't imported, so its row doesn't show it. To resume or retry an import, hover over the platform's icon at the top of the panel on the right of the Digital Brain page.
Where can I see my follower growth?
In Settings > Channels, click a connected X, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky or Instagram account to open it. Followers shows a line like "4,588 followers · +68 in 7 days · +340 in 30 days".
- Typeshare starts counting the day an account is connected (or the day this was added). X, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky and Instagram don't share past follower counts, so there's no history from before that.
- For the first week, the line shows the change since counting started, for example "+12 since Oct 7". The 7-day and 30-day changes appear once there's that much history.
- Counts update once a day while you have a trial or a plan, and about once a week otherwise. A new count can take up to a day to show.
- The line doesn't appear while an account needs reconnecting, and accounts you disconnect stop being counted. Reconnecting the same profile keeps its history.
- Substack doesn't show follower growth yet.
