How do I upload files to my Media library?
- Open Media in the left sidebar.
- Click Upload at the top right and pick one or more files, or drag files from your computer anywhere onto the Media page ("Drop files to upload, at full quality").
The Upload button shows progress while it works, for example "Uploading 2 of 5 · 40%". When it finishes you'll see a message like "3 files added to Media".
You can also paste: copy an image (or take a screenshot to the clipboard), or copy files in Finder or File Explorer, then press ⌘V (Mac) or Ctrl+V (Windows) on the Media page. A pasted screenshot or copied image is named "Pasted image" with the date and time. Pasting into the search box or a folder name pastes text there instead.
To upload straight into a folder, open the folder first, then upload, drop or paste files there.
Can I paste an image into my Media library?
Yes. Copy the image or take a screenshot to the clipboard, open Media (or the folder you want it in) and press ⌘V on a Mac or Ctrl+V on Windows. It uploads at full quality like any other upload.
Only one batch can upload at a time. If you start another, you'll see "Please wait for the current upload to finish."
Can I upload a whole folder?
Not as a folder. If you drop a folder onto the Media page, it is skipped and you'll see "Folders can't be uploaded. Open the folder and drop the files inside." Open the folder on your computer, select the files inside, and drop or upload those. To keep them together in Media, create a folder in Media first, open it, and upload the files there.
What file types can I upload to Media?
The Media library accepts any file type, and keeps every file exactly as you uploaded it: no resizing, no compression, no re-encoding.
- Images in common web formats (JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, AVIF) show as pictures in the library.
- Videos show as playable videos.
- Everything else (PDFs, slide decks, design files, raw photos, HEIC photos, ProRes masters and so on) is kept as a file you can download. It shows as a card with its file type and name. A PDF also shows its page count.
There is no separate per-file size limit in Media. The only limit is the storage left on your plan.
Are my uploads kept at full quality?
Yes. The Media library stores the original file at full quality, whatever its size. The grid shows a smaller preview so the page loads fast, but downloads and posts use the original.
When you publish, Typeshare makes any copy a platform needs (for example, X only takes images up to 5 MB), so your original is never changed.
How much Media storage do I get?
Media storage depends on your plan:
- Basic: 10 GB
- All-Access: 100 GB
Storage counts the files in your Media library: your uploads and anything you saved to Media. Designer drafts you haven't saved don't count, and neither do linked Google Drive folders.
Without an active plan, you can't upload to Media. The storage bar reads "Media storage comes with a plan".
How do I check how much Media storage I've used?
The storage bar floats at the bottom of the Media page, for example "2.4 GB of 10 GB".
- It turns amber when you've used 90% of your storage.
- It turns red and reads "Storage full" when you have no space left.
Hover over the bar to see how much is left. The top of the Media page also shows how many files you have and their total size (inside a folder, it shows that folder's count and size).
What happens when my Media storage is full?
When you don't have enough storage left, an upload stops with a message such as:
- "Not enough storage: 1.2 GB file, 300 MB left. Delete files to make room."
- "Your Media storage is full. Delete files to make room."
To make room, you can:
- Delete files you no longer need: hover over a file, click ..., choose Delete. Deleted files stop counting right away.
- On Basic, upgrade to All-Access for 100 GB. Hover over the storage bar and click Upgrade to All-Access for 100 GB.
- Ask for more: hover over the storage bar and click Contact support to raise your limit.
Why did an upload say "The connection dropped while adding this file to your media library"?
Your internet connection dropped just as Typeshare was adding the file to your Media library, and it stayed down through a few automatic retries. The other files in the batch keep uploading. Check that you're back online, then upload that file again; it won't be added twice.
Why did an upload say "The connection dropped during the upload"?
Your internet connection dropped while that file was uploading, and it stayed down through a few automatic retries. The other files in the batch keep uploading. Check that you're back online, then upload that file again.
Why did an upload say "This file is empty (0 bytes)"?
The file on your computer has no content yet. This usually happens with photos stored in iCloud: your Mac keeps a placeholder until the photo is downloaded. In Finder, right-click the file and choose Download Now (or open it once), or export the photos from the Photos app to a folder, then upload them again. The other files in the batch keep uploading.
How do I use an image or video from Media in a post?
On the Write page:
- In the post editor, click the image icon (Attach media) below the post.
- Choose Choose from media library to pick from Media, or Upload media to add new images or a video from your computer.
- In the Media library window, select what you want (you can search it the same way as the Media page) and click the add button. It names what you picked: Add picture, Add 2 pictures, Add video or Add document. Videos show a play icon and their length in the corner, so you can tell them from photos.
Rules when attaching media:
- A video goes on its own. Put it on an empty post, or remove the images first.
- In a thread, each post in the thread has its own media button, so you can attach media to any of them.
- If the post already has all the media it can take (a video, or 4 images), the window says "This post already has all the media it can take. Remove what is on it to add something else."
Your agents also use your Media library: when they draft a post that fits a photo, screenshot or clip you've kept, they can attach it. Only files in your Media library (and Google Drive folders you've linked) are used.
How do I tell a video from a photo in the Media library window?
Each video has a play icon and its length (for example 0:42) in its bottom left corner. Photos have no badge.
How do I post a PDF as a LinkedIn carousel?
LinkedIn can show a PDF as a swipeable document (often called a carousel). To post one:
- Upload the PDF to your Media library (the Carousels folder is a good place for it).
- On the Write page, make sure LinkedIn is one of the platforms for the post.
- Click Attach media on the first post, choose Choose from media library, and pick the PDF. PDFs only appear in the picker when LinkedIn is selected and you are attaching to the first post.
Picking or dropping a PDF straight onto a post (with Upload media or by dragging it in) doesn't attach it; you'll see "a PDF goes to LinkedIn as a document. Upload it to your Media library, then attach it with Choose from media library." Follow the steps above.
A PDF goes on its own: if the post already has other media, you'll see "A PDF document goes on its own: remove the other media first."
LinkedIn accepts PDF documents up to 100 MB and 300 pages. PDFs can only go out as documents on LinkedIn; other platforms don't take them.
How long can my videos be?
The Media library itself has no length limit: you can keep long originals, such as a full talk, and they count only toward your storage.
Each platform has its own limit when you post a video:
- X: up to 20 minutes and 8 GB. With X Premium on the posting account, up to 125 minutes and 16 GB.
- LinkedIn: 3 seconds to 30 minutes, up to 500 MB.
- Threads: up to 5 minutes, up to 1 GB.
- Bluesky: up to 3 minutes, up to 100 MB.
- Substack Notes: up to 15 minutes, up to 20 GB. A Substack newsletter takes images only.
If a video is too long or too big for a platform, Typeshare tells you which limit it breaks, for example "LinkedIn takes videos up to 30 minutes; this one is 42 minutes."
Why won't a platform accept my video?
Besides length and size (see "How long can my videos be?"), platforms need a video in a format they can read. Typeshare checks this and tells you what to fix:
- "needs H.264 video": re-export the clip as MP4 (H.264). LinkedIn and Threads also accept HEVC.
- "needs AAC audio": re-export the clip as MP4 (H.264 + AAC).
- Threads "needs the video's index at the start of the file": re-export it with "fast start" (sometimes called "web optimized") turned on.
- "Over 20 minutes needs X Premium on the posting account": the clip can only go to X if the connected X account has Premium.
Re-exporting from your video editor or phone as a standard MP4 fixes most of these. Then upload the new file to Media and attach it again.
